After 8 Years Offline, Cult Classic Dungeon Rampage Returns on Steam in Early Access
Dungeon Rampage is officially back from the dead. The cult multiplayer hack-and-slash RPG, once a staple of Facebook gaming in the early 2010s, has relaunched today, December 5, 2025, on Steam in Early Access after spending eight years offline.
The revival follows a successful Kickstarter campaign that reportedly tripled its initial funding goal, a well-received Steam Next Fest demo played by more than 80,000 people, and over 150,000 wishlists gathered since the game’s PC return was announced earlier this year.
Early Access went live today at 10:00 a.m. PST / 1:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CET / 3:00 a.m. JST, with regional pricing aimed at making the comeback accessible to players worldwide.
A Fan-Led Resurrection
Originally launched on Facebook in 2012, Dungeon Rampage built a huge following thanks to its colourful, chaotic co-op dungeon runs, reportedly reaching millions of monthly players before the shutdown in 2017 and the eventual end of Flash left fans with no way to play.
The new PC version exists largely because of one of those fans. Angelos Mako, who discovered the game as a kid, spent years tracking down the original team, helping recover the lost source code and negotiating the rights. Still only 17, he then partnered with Gamebreaking Studios to rebuild the game for modern systems.
“This game means so much to me,” Mako says in the launch announcement. “I’ve been waiting for this day for over eight years, and I’m thrilled to see old-time players and newcomers crawl through these dungeons together.”
Classic Chaos, Modernized
At its core, Dungeon Rampage stays true to what players remember: a co-op, arcade-style dungeon crawler where up to four players team up (or go solo) to slice through waves of enemies, dodge traps, loot chests, and take on oversized bosses.
Players pick from four distinct heroes at launch, each with a different playstyle and kit – from the brute-force Berserker to the trap-setting Vampire Hunter and spell-slinging Pyromancer. More heroes from the original roster are planned to return during Early Access.
Progression is centred on levelling heroes, upgrading abilities, and building out loadouts using hundreds of weapons and items. Pets can also join the fray, with options like rhinos, wolves, and dragons fighting alongside you as you tear through procedurally generated dungeons packed with secrets and environmental hazards.
No More Paywalls, Stronger Anti-Cheat
One of the biggest changes from the old days is how Dungeon Rampage handles progression and monetization. The original Facebook version used a freemium model with microtransactions; the new release is a one-time purchase with all gameplay content unlockable through play. The developers explicitly stress there are no pay-to-win elements this time around.
Cheating was another long-standing problem in the original game. To tackle that, the Early Access build includes modern anti-cheat tools and an in-game reporting system designed to keep co-op runs and leaderboards fair.
Under the hood, the team has updated the legacy tech so the game now runs reliably on contemporary hardware and resolutions, while still preserving its cartoony, hand-drawn 2.5D aesthetic.
What’s in Early Access – and What’s Coming Next
According to the Steam page, today’s Early Access version includes:
- Four playable heroes
- Multiple leagues and levels, each with their own bosses
- Three pets to unlock and bring into battle
- Procedurally generated dungeons for high replayability
- A revamped in-game economy tuned for progression without microtransactions
Gamebreaking Studios expects Dungeon Rampage to remain in Early Access for around 6–12 months. During that period, the team plans to add:
- Full controller support
- Four additional heroes returning from the original version
- More pets and performance improvements
- Ultimate Rampage, a roguelite-style challenge mode designed to push the chaos even further
Given the strength of the nostalgia factor, the successful crowdfunding campaign, and an already active community eager to offer feedback, Dungeon Rampage’s second life is off to an energetic start. Whether you’re a returning veteran from the 2010s or discovering it for the first time, the dungeons are open once again.
