Fallout 3 Remaster Still a Long Way Off, Insider Claims

Fans hoping to revisit the Capital Wasteland with updated visuals may need to temper their expectations—according to a well-known industry insider, the rumored Fallout 3 remaster is not coming any time soon.

Originally released in 2008, Fallout 3 marked Bethesda’s first foray into the beloved post-apocalyptic franchise, following its success with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The game was a commercial hit, selling over 12 million units, and has since become a fan-favorite entry in the series. Hopes for a remaster reignited in 2023 when leaked documents from the FTC’s investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard revealed that Bethesda was planning remasters for both Oblivion and Fallout 3.

While rumors around the Oblivion remaster have picked up momentum—bolstered by apparent screenshot leaks and hints of an imminent release—news surrounding Fallout 3 has remained scarce.

Now, insider Nate the Hate has addressed the status of the Fallout 3 remaster. Responding to a fan inquiry, Nate confirmed that the game is still in the works, but added that “it’ll be a while” before players get their hands on it. This vague update offers little clarity and raises concerns that the project may have been delayed—or even shelved.

Speculation about the release window can be traced back to the original leaks, which suggested the Fallout 3 remaster was slated to arrive alongside The Elder Scrolls VI. Given that TES VI is not expected until late 2026 or 2027, the Fallout 3 remaster may be on a similar timeline.

Meanwhile, the Oblivion remaster appears much closer to launch. Recent leaks have not only confirmed its existence but also revealed that it will feature a graphical overhaul, improved combat mechanics, and other quality-of-life upgrades. Reports suggest the remaster will release for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, potentially as soon as April, with a day-one debut on Xbox Game Pass.

While Bethesda has yet to make an official announcement regarding either remaster, fans of the Fallout franchise will have to remain patient. For now, all eyes are on Oblivion as the next big classic to get the modern treatment.
